Custom web applications and business software.
You need a tool that does not exist as such: management software that fits the way you work, a portal for your customers, an online platform. I handle the development of your custom web application or custom software end to end: design, development, production. You talk to the person who writes the code, from the first conversation to launch.
Remote, anywhere in France and abroad.
Sounds familiar?
Your business runs on spreadsheets that everyone edits on their own side.
The same information is typed two or three times, into tools that do not talk to each other.
Off-the-shelf software does almost what you need, but not the part that matters to you.
Your customers email you for things they could look up themselves.
You have an idea for a platform or an online service, and nobody to build it.
Your prototype convinced people, and you now need a real product that lasts.
What you are looking for.
Business software, customer portal, platform, SaaS: each need has its own word. Here are the most common ones, each with a real example.
Business software instead of your spreadsheets
Business software, line-of-business application, internal tool: three names for management software built around the way you work, not the other way round. Request tracking, scheduling, quotes, stock, field work: information is entered once, and the tool opens in a browser, at the office or in the field.
A customer portal or a partner portal
Also called a client portal: your customers or partners log in, follow their cases, upload documents, check their figures. Fewer emails and calls for you, an immediate answer for them. Access is set by role: everyone sees only what is theirs.
An online platform or a SaaS
Matchmaking, booking, marketplace, subscription service: a product open to your own customers, with the accounts, payments and administration that go with it. It is designed from the start to grow, and for a team to take over.
A back office and dashboards
The other side of your site or shop: manage sales, users and content, and read your figures without exporting a file. It is often the part that saves the most time.
Tools that talk to each other
Your application does not live alone. It connects to your accounting, your online shop, your CRM or your partners. Data flows without retyping or manual exports.
An application to finish or take over
The project exists, but it is stuck: the developer left, nobody dares touch the code, the launch never comes. I read what exists, tell you what holds, then finish it or take it over.
How I go about it.
- 01
A first conversation
You describe your business and what costs you time. No specification needed: a few lines are enough to start.
- 02
A written scope
I write down what the application will do, what it will not, and in which order. You approve it before the first line of code.
- 03
Delivery in stages
You use a first version early, then the application grows. We adjust course along the way, not at the end.
- 04
Production, and what comes next
I deploy, monitor and document. You can keep me for changes, or hand the rest to someone else.
Custom, or off-the-shelf software?
Custom is not always the right answer. Before building, I check whether an existing tool would do the job, and I tell you.
Custom is worth it if
- The way you work is what sets you apart, and no software respects it.
- You pay for several subscriptions and use only a small part of each.
- The tool must connect to what you already have.
- You want to own it, without depending on a vendor’s choices.
Off-the-shelf is enough if
- Your need is everyone’s need: invoicing, payroll, calendar, messaging.
- A subscription already covers the essentials, and the rest can wait.
- You only want to test an idea: a no-code tool can be enough for a first try.
What I have already done.
Real projects, in production. Each one gives the context and what I did.
Payment aggregation platform
One integration to accept payments through more than 150 providers, with a fraud detection engine. In production.
Property management platform
A platform connecting managers, tenants and contractors around building maintenance work. Back end rebuilt from scratch, single-handedly at first.
Virtual item trading platform
Four payment providers, inventory, real time, and a fairness system every user can verify themselves.
ZeQuestion
A real-time multiplayer quiz, designed, built and run end to end.
In practice Node.js, TypeScript, Vue and Nuxt, Laravel, MongoDB and MySQL. The application opens in a browser, on a computer or a phone. Hosting is in your name.
Frequently asked questions
- What is business software?
- Software built for one specific activity, yours, as opposed to general-purpose software like a spreadsheet. It is also called bespoke software, or a line-of-business application. Today it almost always takes the form of a web application: you open it in a browser, with nothing to install.
- What is the difference between a website and a web application?
- A website presents: you read it. An application does: you log in, enter data, follow something. Many projects combine both, for instance a public site with a customer portal behind it.
- Do you also build mobile apps?
- My work is the web application: it opens in the phone’s browser just as on a computer, with nothing to install, and that is enough for many business tools. I have built apps installed from the App Store or Google Play before, but that was a long time ago. If that is what you need, we talk about it openly in the first conversation.
- How much does custom software cost?
- The cost of custom software or a custom web application depends on what it must do, and I only quote once I have understood it. What weighs most: the number of user types, the connections to other tools, and the migration of existing data. The first conversation is free, and the quote fits on one page.
- How long does it take?
- From one to several months depending on the scope. The application is delivered in stages: you use a first version early instead of waiting for the end.
- Do I need a specification?
- No. A few lines about your business and what blocks you are enough to start. I write the scope, with you, and you approve it before development.
- Agency or freelance developer?
- An agency brings a team, useful when design, communication and development must run side by side. With a freelance developer, you talk directly to the person who designs and writes the code: nothing gets lost along the way.
- Can it connect to our existing tools?
- Yes, as long as those tools allow it: accounting, online shop, CRM, payment providers. It is often the part that saves the most time, because it removes retyping.
- Who owns the code?
- You do. Hosting and the domain name are in your name, and the code and documentation are handed over to you. You can continue with another provider without asking me anything.
- What happens after launch?
- The application runs without me. If you wish, I stay on for fixes, changes and server monitoring. Otherwise, the documentation lets another developer take over.
- Do you work remotely?
- Yes, anywhere in France and abroad, in English or French. Conversations happen by video, and you follow progress on a live version.
